Termites and carpenter ants can do a great deal of damage to a home. These little insects are notorious for ruining the frame of a home. Carpenter ants dig into the wood, and the termites will actually ingest and eat the wood. This can cause thousands of dollars worth of damage to the home, and actually render the home unsafe to live in. If you find that you have termites in your home, it is time to act and act as fast as possible. Here are a few different ways to keep termites away from your home, or to kill them once they are  in the home.

 Wood

One of the first things that you need to do is remove any wood from around you house. It is very common for people to landscape with wood mulch around the house. The mulch keeps moisture close to any plants. However, the wood mulch is like a magnet for termites. Remove any real wood from close to your house. In fact, it is a good idea to even remove woody shrubs from your house. Anything that might attract a termite should be cut back away from the home, or simply removed.

Foundation

Most of the time termites will travel underground, and it is for this reason that you need to have a very sturdy foundation. If you even think that there could be damage to your foundation, then you should have it inspected. Having your foundation inspected is good for a number of reasons, but be sure that it is inspected for major cracks or holes. If you do not want it to be inspected, it is a good idea to dig around the foundation and to fill the cracks and holes with mortar.
